The Miles College Community Mourns the loss of Devoted Choir Director

Dr. Bernard Williams

 

 

Fairfield, Al- The Miles College family mourns the death of devoted and beloved choir director, Dr. Bernard Williams, who passed away on Friday August 22. He became a member of the Miles College faculty in 1998 and has served as Certification Officer and Professor in the Division of Education, College Organist and most recently as Director of the Miles College Choir and the “Golden Voices”.

Under his astute leadership and sixteen years of dedicated service, the choir grew from a membership of 32 in 1998 to more than 100 members today. Williams also served as Interim Director of Bands of the Miles College Purple Marching machine during his tenure.

A musical genius, Bernard Williams received the Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Samford University, the Masters of Arts Degree in Education Administration from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, the Ed.S in Educational Administration from Samford University and the Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Samford University.

 

"We are very deeply saddened by the loss of our friend, teacher and colleague, Dr. Bernard Williams who enriched the lives of so many Mileans who endeared him.” said Dr. George T. French, Jr., President of Miles College. “Our prayers and our thoughts are with his family. He will definitely be missed."

Counselors will be available on campus to assist students during this time. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 5:00p.m., on the campus of Miles College, at the George T. French, Jr. Student Activity Center.
