Counseling
and advising are essential to quality campus life and student retention. Students
who need help with academic, social, personal, and career development concerns
can get assistance through the Counseling Center, which also has responsibility
for the areas of advisement and testing. |
Students are
assigned academic advisors before arrival on campus or when they attend Freshman
and New Student Orientation. In addition, the College seeks to test students and
place them appropriately, as well as guide and counsel them in academic and career
areas. Accordingly, the Center placement tests for the students, national achievement
test programs, and special testing associated with graduation requirements. An
optional course in test-taking is offered for students who desire to become more
test sophisticated. Both group and individual tests are administered and interpreted
for students in an effort to assist them in assessing their academic skills, interests,
and abilities. |
Professional
counselors with a broad range of resources for assisting each student in achieving
his/her full potential are available. The resources include psychological and
vocational tests, occupational information, and a variety of career booklets and
graduate school catalogs. The College provides these services for its students
so that they may achieve greater educational benefit during their tenure at Miles
College. |
