Augustus James named Chairman of SIAC Athletic Directors

Augustus James, Director of Athletics at Miles College, has been named Chairman of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Directors Association. James was selected by the other 10 athletic directors in the SIAC for the two-year term.

I am very excited that the torch has been passed to me as chair of the association," James said. "With the help of the other athletic directors, I plan to continue the strong tradition of providing leadership to our school members."

James, who is in his 14th year as Director of Athletics, has been a member of the Miles College Department of Athletics for 34 years. He has served for the last 26 years as the director of the National Youth Sports Program at Miles College and is the State Coordinator . He is a member of the SIAC's Expansion and Basketball Tournament committees as well as the co-chair of the SIAC Baseball Tournament Committee. He serves on the South Region. Football Committee and is a past member of the NCAA South Region Basketball Committee.
The Centerville, AL native, is a 1966 graduate of Miles College and earned a Master's degree in Educational Administration from the University of Montevallo in 1977. He is a retired high school administrator. James has three daughters: Cheryl, Vanessa, and Adriane, and has two grandchildren: Devin and Kayle. Augustus James succeeds Dr. E.D. Wilkens of LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tenn, who served as chairman for two terms.

Phillip Wallace, Jr. named Head Women’s Basketball and Volleyball coach of the Lady Bears

Miles College has named Phillip Wallace, Jr. to lead the Women’s Basketball and Volleyball programs into the 2004-2005 season. He succeeds Kimberly Pooler, whose contract was not renewed.

Wallace comes to Miles from Andrew College (46-29) in Cuthbert, Georgia, where he served as Head Men’s and Women’s Basketball coach. From 1999-2000, he was Administrative Assistant at Cascade Elementary School. Wallace was Head Women’s Basketball and Volleyball coach at Morris Brown College (49-30) from 1996-99. He was the Head Women’s Basketball and Volleyball coach at Savannah State University (105-38) from 1990-96.

A native of Savannah, Georgia, Wallace received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Savannah State University in 1989 and completed his Master of Public Administration at Savannah State in (1993).

Wallace is married to Sharon Wallace. They are the parents of one daughter, Sha’ron (13), and one son, Phillip III (2).
