As we grow, new students entering the communications program can look forward to receiving an education that reflects the current changes in telecommunications and media. Our vision is to expand our current major to several majors in communications, ranging from electronic and visual media to multimedia design. This makes the students more marketable in the new media environment. Future majors in communications will be able also to choose film or radio production, intercultural communications, and communications science.
Our vision of this new communications learning environment is one in which we maintain competent, professional faculty and staff, whom, together facilitate an academic experience comparable with that of significantly larger institutions.
A continued upward thrust toward scholarship will result in award winning faculty and student projects published in refereed publications, new seminars in contemporary media issues, and special presentations involving our faculty and students. We will see more outside scholars and professionals in the discipline lending their perspectives on issues related to telecommunications in society. We also envision a regional conference that will offer opportunities for communications professionals to dialogue and strategize for the future of the discipline. Integrating traditional media forms with multi-media, the communications student will create new and exciting imagery, audio, and print and web design for an emerging cyber-society.
The College as a whole will be enjoying a new image, one that is coherent and unified. Communicating this new image will take place through a matrix of both traditional as well as emerging forms of communications. The primary responsibility for this image building will be that of professional public relations staff, but we will also rely on a trained faculty and administration in media relations. Students will play an important role in helping to tell everyone about the benefits of Miles College and particularly the communications program.
